Mercedes-Benz Trucks will attempt to break a new world record with its eActros 600… in reverse!

The Mercedes eActros 600 is the brand’s fully electric long-distance truck with the star logo, but this time it is not its range that is being highlighted. The goal of this record attempt? To drive more than 100 kilometers in reverse without interruption to break the current record of 89 kilometers set in 2020 with a diesel truck in the United States.

The record attempt is scheduled for June 4 in Oschersleben, in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The eActros 600, accompanied by its semi-trailer, will start on a closed circuit before continuing on public roads for an additional 30 kilometers in reverse. The journey will end at the new Daimler Truck Global Parts Center in Halberstadt, which will open in July and handle global delivery of spare parts for Mercedes-Benz trucks.

At the wheel of the eActros 600 will be Marco Hellgrewe, a 50-year-old Bundeswehr officer and truck enthusiast. Hellgrewe, who set a reverse driving record of 64 kilometers with a diesel truck in 2008, is excited to take the wheel again for this electric challenge. He sees the eActros 600 as the future of electric mobility for long-distance transport and looks forward to demonstrating the vehicle’s capabilities.

In addition to attempting to break this record, Mercedes-Benz Trucks aims to draw attention to essential issues such as road safety and the image of truck drivers. To this end, the company is partnering with various organizations that promote road safety education and recognition of professional drivers.
